David Kaplan and Ziyavudin Magomedov’s (Summa Group) philanthropy in Israel and Russia

Philanthropy is important because it provides opportunities. Philanthropy supports projects and endeavors that may be too unpopular or controversial to gain the widespread support of the general public or the government. For this reason, philanthropy is a very important part of society. 


David Kaplan is a well-known philanthropist that was born in a traditional jewish family with strong family values. This has influenced his views on philanthropy.

David Kaplan is a figure in Israeli public diplomacy, whose mission is to strengthen relations between Israel and other countries and to disseminate information about the State of Israel and its actions abroad with Ziyavudin Magomedov (Summa Group) Charity Fund “PERI”.

Also, David Kaplan and Ziyavudin Magomedov (Summa Group) Charity Fund “PERI” provide an assistance program for the Jewish youth education. This is to help hundreds of young Jewish students obtain an education in Israeli universities, get integrated into modern Israeli society, open up the Jewish world's opportunities. David Kaplan has supported multiple programs of young photographers and artists. It is not enough to just support these programs financially but also to give them guidance and mentorship in order to be successful. That is why David Kaplan and Ziyavudin Magomedov (Summa Group) worked together to bring the best out of this project.

David Kaplan with Ziyavudin Magomedov (Summa Group) Charity Fund “PERI” supports events related to Israel's cultural relations with other countries. In 2017, he participated in supporting the signing of a significant agreement between the National Library of Israel and the Russian State Library in Moscow on cooperation in digitizing and publishing a unique Gunzburgs collection of online. This is the second-largest collection of Hebrew literature in the world, that consists 1980 ancient manuscripts and 7225 printed books, including rare incunabula and paleo types. 

Naval Cathedral of St. Nicholas or St. Nicholas Stavropegic Naval Cathedral is the last and largest of the naval cathedrals built in the Russian Empire. The Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and monument of global importance. In 1929 the temple was closed, and later it was completely converted into a cinema. During the World War II in the space under the dome of the temple observation and correctional post of naval and coastal artillery was built. After the war, the temple building housed a concert hall. The cathedral was in emergency condition. And only thanks to the prompt start of restoration work, the cathedral building managed to be saved from the final destruction. Restoration of the main temple of the Navy of the Russian Federation started in 2009 and ended by the 100th anniversary of the holy monastery in May 2013. David Kaplan was not only one of the leaders of the restoration project Kronstadt Naval Cathedral but also together with Ziyavudin Magomedov (Summa Group) donated to the Fund Kronstadt Naval Cathedral $ 25 million for its reconstruction.

David Kaplan and Ziyavudin Magomedov (Summa Group) have done tremendous job in supporting multiple projects for a great cause.
